YFWP-Nigeria Partners with Image Talks Africa for Youth Job Training | Print |

job trainingThe Youth Federation for World Peace-Nigeria has partnered with Image Talks Africa to provide online support to job seekers in Nigeria. Target beneficiaries are undergraduates, graduating students, the currently unemployed, and the working population seeking advancement and promotion.

Nigeria, with an estimated population of 154 million (UN, 2009), is Africa’s most populous nation and the eighth most populous in the world. With a median age of 19 years, and with one of the world’s highest growth and fertility rates, Nigeria faces challenges in providing opportunities for its youth.

Many young people do not posses necessary interview skills, which severely limit employment opportunities. Nigerian President Yaradua in his seven-point agenda for the advancement of Nigeria emphasized job creation and redirecting the energy of youth into meaningful and productive occupations. The government is urging companies in Nigeria to create opportunities specifically for unemployed youths, and the YFWP/Image Talks Africa program aims to help youths master the soft skills necessary for interview success.

The most frequent employers of youth in Nigeria are service-oriented industries, such as banks, eateries, marketing firms, which require employees with good communication skills  who can build rapport with potential customers.

In line with the UN-Millennium Development Goals, this program aims to alleviate poverty by expanding access to jobs, providing basic knowledge of communication skills, empowering women to compete favorably with their male counterparts, and creating a platform for partnerships with the government and the private sector to develop indigenous human capacity for sustainable development.

The Online Job Seekers Support Project has proved valuable in helping youths jump start their job search and attain important verbal and non-verbal communication skills and image management, as well as how to establish a professional presence.

Hi there,

Sounds like a great task to me, considering the entire youth populace in Nigeria. But first, we need to know more about Image Talks and their impact in Nigeria. I'll also suggest self-centred developmental programmes that will build INDIVIDUAL capacity to be useful first to himself, then organisations, companies and the nation at large.

More grease to your elbows!!

Hi,
i think this programme would be an eye-opener to our youths especially those that have lost focus on who they are and what they hope for their future. This would redirect the attitude of our future leaders to improve on themselves and add to their own quota to our dera nation.keep it up
